Mosquito Run

Description

Fort Macon State Park is excited to announce the return of the Mosquito Run for 2023.  Things are finally returning to normal post Covid, and we are looking forward to hosting the race as one of Fort Macon’s biggest events of the year.

This 10K and 5K run/walk, held at Fort Macon State Park, will benefit the Friends of Fort Macon.   The Friends of Fort Macon are huge financial supporters of all park projects, including the park’s trail system.  Even if you won’t be able to join us for the race, please consider donating to the Friends of Fort Macon so we can continue to improve Fort Macon State Park.

The racecourse at Fort Macon State Park is not only one of the newest courses in North Carolina but has already proven to be one of the most challenging courses in eastern North Carolina. Who knew there were hills at the beach?

The natural beauty of this course is unmatched. The race starts and finishes in front of a restored 200-year-old fort.  Instead of a little starter pistol, the Mosquito Run gets the race started with the thunderous boom from a fort cannon.  The course boardwalks cross natural wetlands and continues through an early growth maritime forest and thickets. The course then continues through pristine sand dunes on a hard pack trail.  The 10K course steps the challenge up a notch with a segment run down the oceanfront beach.  You might have a pod of dolphins cheering you on as you make your way down the beach!
